Does a Personal Blog Make Sense with Medium?

Should you follow me or my blog? What is my blog in the context of medium? Does it even fit in here or is it just a good collection location to keep to make exporting easier?
Come to think of it, and looking around, I can’t even export content from a publication it seems. I can export all my personal stories, that works, and it will likely include all the blog stories, but it will be all HTML, not XML and hard to migrate anywhere else. As such, the concept of the blog makes little sense, but I should rather just write for different publications on Medium, and all those posts will be visible on my personal profile.
As such, it becomes a lot clearer why you can’t have your own domain linked to your Medium profile, as this profile is what Medium wants to keep being Medium. A publication is more of an aggregation of writers around a given subject.
A few years back I might have really complained and not want to get caught in this system, in this walled garden that Medium is building if you want to call it that. By now, I think you need to spread yourself across a lot of properties on a personal level and get people from there. Your content needs to be where the people are and not the other way around. Social traffic on fresh content has a lot more power than Google Juice now, especially if this is not done for monetary reasons.
Hence, I will continue my move to Medium for now, but keep my archive in XML form and possibly only post from iA Writer in the future to keep a local markdown copy.
Let’s see if I revise those thoughts tomorrow. :) What do you think?
