Change in Venue for WebMontag

We need to change the venue for WebMontag and I am mighty pissed. I am currently looking for an alternative and might know more tomorrow. We are looking at Halmackenreuther again. The thing is that the big Cleanicum head honcho seems to have a friend that wants to do an event there and hence we are thrown out. The person I talked to, who heads the Cleanicum here in Cologne, doesn’t even really have a say in that. Amazing. I am still baffled by how somebody can behave like this. Like with the other events we didn’t have anything in writing, as we didn’t pay anything either, but we would have paid something if needed which was even communicated. Baffled. Still confused. I will update the Wiki once I know more.

A story from a long time ago. In 1997 I organised an Internet Mini Meet in Birmingham. I found the perfect place for it : a motor sport bar on a roundabout near Sutton Coldfield with a huge carpark. Perfect for a load of Mini fans to meet up. I went and arranged it with the manager. One week before, the manager phoned up and said “The boss says that because it’s father’s day, you have to prebook.” This would have cost me a small fortune, which I couldn’t afford. So I went down the road from work to a pub and asked them. “Sure”, they said, “Just turn up any time after 2″.That Saturday, a huge crowd of Minis descended on the car park at the original place (which was still a good place to meet up). We actually attracted a number of local mini-owners who were driving past and just decided to join in the fun. All in all, that was about thirty minis. We then drove off to the other pub. The manager’s face was a picture, as 30+ meals drove out of his carpark. As for his “father’s day” reservations, there were only about three people in the whole restaurant all the time we were there.A year later the motorsport bar had been turned into a McDonalds.
