Acquicor launches

Now that’s how you launch a company. Take ex-Apple CEO Gilbert Amelio, co-founder Steve Wozniak and ex-Exodus CEO Ellen Hancock and have them launch a company. They don’t even need to know what they are doing, you just want to use their network, because the IPO comes with the company founding and you raise $150 Million for the three to buy any company out there. That’s a SPAC (special purpose acquisition corporation) we have here. I first heard about them doing this in a recent TWiT episode where woz was attending. Now more has come to light via the Mercury News. So check it out: MercuryNews.com | 03/15/2006 | Ex-Apple executives seek tech properties to acquire.

Update: Techdirt has more on their compensation from the sec filing.

    Acquicor buys Jazz Semiconductors

I wrote about Acquicor in March and the company has now filled it’s purpose and bought Jazz Semiconductors for $260 Million. As a reminder, the company was formed simply to buy another company. That’s called SPAC, special purpose acquisition corporation.
