Mandela about Bush

Well … read this. I have heard some people say that they doubt that this is Mandela talking there but then again, it’s from Reuters and they are likely making sure that it’s correct.

Listening to Lutz

I just returned from a speech by Lutz Hackenberg of the AGD. He was talking about how to get, hold, talk to, understand, … customers. He was actually very confincing and it was a good learning experience even though this was more or less geared towards designers. Some interesting things follow.

Downtime

Today, once again, there was a considerable downtime from the part of the company that hosts these pages. It seems that they did not renew some kind of license on the servers that they are using. Not really the most brilliant thing to happen. This thing has been going up and down several times now and sadly they don’t seem to monitor that it’s down, or at least they don’t notice. Of course, a full virtual server for $9 per month with 1Gig of space and full root access is something that is rather nice. Let’s see how this goes on.

Blogging with MovableType

It’s done. I installed MovableType and I am loving it. This is so wonderful to use and optimize and I really like having all of it in my own database. Sure, LiveJournal is a very nice service and all, and I liked having it, but this is nicer. I really like the design, the templates system, management interface and capabilities like an RDF feed so other people can look at updates in my blog. Now I need to get my old LJ posts imported here and I am happy.

Next up would be getting the design done. At the moment I am just using a normal template and actually like it. I need to build it around my site though which will change once again. I have been using Typo3 as a content management system at oliver.thylmann.com but want to move away from that to build my own system. Sure, then I should actually build my own blogging system but lets now overdo it please.

That’s it for now though. More coming soon. :)
